HIVE Houston: Workshop for Educators

Workshop Goals

  • Introduce the HIVE project as an environmentally proactive project focusing on the life and work of artists.
  • Discuss the influence of design on our interactions with the community
  • Gather feedback from area educators
  • Share ideas for methods to get students to think critically about urban/architectural space, the role of the artist in day-to-day life styles, and how design of space impacts their daily lives

4:35 – 5:00 pm                         The Beginnings of the HIVE Project: Philosophical Underpinnings and Unpacking the idea of Transcendence – Nestor Topchy, Founding/Creative Director of HIVE Houston

5:00 – 6:00 pm                         Transforming Urban Living – A Sense of Community and Social Interaction with the Design of Space – Si Dang, Architect, HIVE Houston

Mapping HIVE Spaces Project – Si Dang, Architect, HIVE Houston

6:00 – 6:30 pm                         Impact and Possibilities of Materials: Introduction to Shipping Containers – John “Juan” Walker, Construction Manager, HIVE Houston
